I took my car to a local car handwash and straight after that I got a significant amount of condensation inside the driver side headlight. The passenger side stayed 100% dry.Any idea what could be the cause and how to get rid of?I remember that when I bought my car in manchester and then drove it to london in torrential rain my headlight got moisture in. But that was it for two years. No moisture until last friday.I have noticed the carwash guy spending more time near the headlamp with the powerwash, could that be it?Also, there was a fair bit of rain in London and it got worse. Could this be due to the colder weather recently? Thanks. I have driven with my headlights on for two days.
Headlights are not airtight. They have a special vent that allows them to breath. When they get hot, the vent lets air out and when they get cold, the vent lets air in. If there is moisture and/or dust in that air, it can get into the headlight. This simple and easy to make tool can make it easy to clean the inside of your headlight.
It got better I must say. But rain overnight and it got much worse again even if not driven around, just parked outsideIt's because if the moisture can't escape then the moisture content within the headlight does not change. With headlights on you increase the temp of the surrounding air and it's ability to retain moisture increases and you don't have condensation.
As the temperature decreases then the air can no longer 'hold' the moisture and it condensates. This may help, it's from my university text book. Mine got bad on the first day I bought my car from bmw, demo car. Was told that it will go and warranty wouldnt apply to headlight condensation.
Luckily for me they were right. Until almost two years.I dont want my headlight to fail as my warranty expired and a new one is not exactly cheap. The headlight will get out tomorrow and every seal gets checked by my m8 @ BMW dealer bodyshop. He told me today that even new cars get this problem and that the headlights are not waterproof, however it will take a lot of pressure before it lets in moisture. Most likely it will be a failed seal or a crack somewhere ( which would be a suprise ).

After time, small scratches, trapped moisture, and most bubbles will dissipate on their own. However, if you encounter a stubborn bubble, you can poke it with a sewing needle and push out the air or water. The hole will eventually close on its own.How do I remove the film from my paint? To remove the film, we recommend warming it with a heat gun, hair dryer, or simply by parking the car in the sunlight on a warm day. While the film is warm, slowly peel the film from the lens surface. Any adhesive that may be left on the lens can be removed with a cleaner that is safe for use on your vehicle's exterior. Are these films legal in my state? Our colored films may not be legal for street use on a vehicle's primary lighting, and, as such, are sold with an off-road use disclosure.
